'76 CB750F - what are these 2 extra wires on my LH switch?
« on: September 30, 2011, 07:42:48 AM »
The reason I ask is that I flipped on my hi beam last night for the first time in ages, and heard this sizzling sound..... yep. At least my hi beam still works, but I can't switch it back to low. Going to try and replace it before Barber if I can find one.

So, what do those two green wires go to?

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Since I'm at work I can't see your pic, but I would say they are ground wires.  But without being able to see the pic that's as much help as I can offer right now.

That's for the clutch starter safety switch. You have to have the clutch engaged or be in neutral before the starter will work.

Hmmm.. So can I just use a regular 750K switch (or 550/500 etc for that matter) and not use these? Seems the ones for the F are a little harder to find, and I can probably scrounge up a K one here in town w/o having to order online.

Are you talking about the clutch switch or the headlight switch?
The  clutch switches should all be the same.

Also used as a front brake switch on some other Honda bikes.

The left controls for a 75-76 K&F are the same I believe.  Dunno about 550 etc.

So any idea why the hi/lo switch fried? Could it be a bad switch, or do I need to track down a short somewhere in the wiring?

Since you say your head light still works I would start with the switch itself.
Open it up and take a look. It's a pretty simple thing. It can be repaired.
Do some forum searching about the left control, there's some threads about it.

Tugboat, when my 77F got upside down, the only casualty was the mirror mount on the left hand switch.  I got a switch from an earlier K model as a replacement.  It still had the clutch switch wires, the only mod I had to make was to cut a channel in the bottom for the other wires.  In an earlier K model, they ran through the bars.  I'll show you next weekend.
