« on: July 19, 2010, 01:25:35 PM »
So I'm doing a complete engine rebuild I have everything off to crack the crankcase except the clutch basket.. The springs are off I just can't get that stupid locknut off.. So first what size wrench or socket do I need.. Also any suggestions this is the only thing holding me back.. The manual doesn't say what size so any help is appriciated!

Is it the 4 pronged nut?  The clymer manual says how to cut a tool for it.  I used to have the honda tool untill my box got stolen.

bump.

I ran into this problem as well on my '80 650 Custom.  Honda wanted to order the tool for me and charge $32 for it.  So, I went to sears and got a $5 socket and went to town with my dremel.  Something between 1 and 1 1/16 would have been best, but this 1 1/16 worked just fine.

Overall cost:  $6.50 if I include the dremel cutting wheel I used up in the process :).
