i've worked out the stairs thing,
in winter warm air rises past them in their chosen spot
in summer cool air will drift past them to the lower floor

doesn't mean its not a pain in the arse having to keep an eye out for the furry little fcukers when you're using the stairs with a drink in your hand, luckily the one that used to do it the most was pure white so at least i had some chance of spotting him, he's gone now so the other two are still sorting out who gets which territory in the inevitable power reshuffle

Last night Mr. Houdini was quite a bit more tolerant already, and Staircat got more cocky, resulting in them peacefully eating from the same bowl, so it seems they've settled their differences a bit for now.

We've got 4 cats around the house at the moment. Felix the oldest, our 10 year old black Tabby. Slightly overweight and nervous, not a killer, more of a negotiator, or perhaps a spokesman for the others. Emily is the Maine Coon/Tabby cross, she adores Felix and will bash any cat (especially Leo, who she loathes) who comes near him, even his friends.

Leo, the Abyssinian, thinks he's a dog, admires Felix and growls like a dog at strangers. "Lady" is my oldest boy's cat, she's the interloper, has lived in high rise apartments all of her 8 years before arriving here a few months ago, is a weird looking Bengal/Tabby cross, has never seen another cat until now and is the target of Emily and Leo, who try to attack her through the hall door, while she seems to have accepted Felix who wanders over to the door for a chat now and then. They're an interesting group of individuals.

He's a good boy most of the time.
But at 3am this morning when I had to clean up a big patch of cat spew,
I was annoyed with him.
All ginger cats look identical to me.

My previous cat used to come with a built-in cat vomit cleaning system.

The current ones seem to need further training $:-\$

They'll eat any dry food, appear fine for hours, but then the ginger one will throw up all over his favorite hideouts in the middle of the night

Funny thing is his sister loves wet cat food, but the ginger one agrees with its humans that the stuff just smells farkin' disgusting. Sticks to dry only.

best cat that ever lived ever looked very similar to the guy pictured above, except he weighed in at a rough and rugged 22 pounds. And although a p.o. had declawed him, everyone and everything quickly learned not to #$%* with him. He introduced himself to me by sitting at my feet with a live mouse in his mouth, looked me right in the eye, and proceeded to snap it's neck. Sorry, no pics. He died before I discovered the wonders of digital technology. His name was Pauli.

My mate Pete had a German Shepherd back in the 70's, he'd feed her a can of dog food and she'd wolf (pun intended) it down, then immediately throw it back up. Then she'd eat it again. Not a good thing to watch if you'd had a bit too much to drink........

Leilani the vomit eating great dane found some sort of roadkill in the forest a while ago ( treekill ? ) and grabbed it, ran away and tried to swallow it in one go before i could get to her, she threw it up 3 times before even she gave up on it

until the next day when she found it again, grabbed it and managed to get it down and keep it down that time

she was rewarded for her perseverance by being denied dinner that night in case it went badly and she had to go to the vet, she took out her delight by beating the crap out of the poor wolfhound cos he did get dinner

I love pussy too....

We had felines up until our daughter had an allergic reaction to them.
She carries an Epi pin nowadays.

For "the rest of the story".

Since then, These boys grew up with a baby stray Tom that wondered into their run.
They cleaned the mats out of his eyes and constantly check on him while we got him nursed
back to health. Nap, chase, play, and enjoy Tom's company they do. Tom is full grown and 7 years old, called Morris now. He looks just like Morris the cat. Ginger but maybe a tad more mackereling than the one pictured above. Very young grandson is allergic to cats like his mommie. Morris is a shop cat now and a great mouser that always displays his catch like Sean discribed.

Morris is a fighter too, not on the level of the Great Dane slayer. He used to come home wounded and torn up after his three day walk about adventures. The boys would tend to his wounds and watch over him while he healed. Morris is a great mechanic's assistant too. His favorite place is on you.
