the easiest way is to take a dremel and small cut off wheel and cut the chrome band straight in then take a screw driver and walk it off the flange when you put it back on a spot of epoxy and a rubber band around it will make it right put the cut on the bottom where you and everyone else can't see it

the other way is to un- gnurl the chrome strip  around the middle  with a flat screw driver ( a small one) and take it apart that way it is a pain to do and does not always look that great after you re-gnurl it over plus if you need in there again to clean it or oil the gauge then it could break

Can you mask off with tape the parts you do not want paint on and not have to tear them apart ?

yeah sure if you are just painting it sure but if you need into the gauges any way it is easier to cut the band but I have painted them by masking them off but that was before i had to take my speedometer apart to clean and oil it they also come out of their cups with two 10mm acorn nuts on the bottom but you will have to remove the cables before removing them
I just assumed that he seemed from his demeanor that he was interested in doing some restoration work to them which to clean the glass you have to open them and to repaint the faces as well as do a class paint job on the vessels

I made a video how to open a gauge. That works the same for a CB550:

This is in my opinion the best way to open the gauge without damaging the ring

I wish you'd make a video showing how to crimp the ring back on the gauge. I have tried the un-crimping and re-crimping method, and while I had no problem un-crimping the ring, I found it very difficult to crimp the ring back on cleanly and tightly. The best way for me to do this job was to cut the ring and epoxy it back on.

Nice video Lecram. Did you do a video on how to put the ring back on without damaging the top. Thanks and nice work there.

Very nice and thanks for posting it again. Would you consider making one of those ring clamps for me and including one of those plastic bands too? I would be glad to PayPal you for parts and labor. I will PM you. Thanks...
