72 cb500 front wheel bearings

getting ready to do the front wheel bearings on my bike. have read alot of threads over the past few days on it. one thing i cannot remeber. is the spanner style nut/ retainer right or left hand threads?

It is CCW, I just did it. I have a 73 cb500 and working on it. 
I also purchased the tool to remove the bearings since they seem to be a pain to take them off. I rather spent $50 now and do it right than end up buying new hubs and getting hurt. Learned this the hard way after trying to save money by not buying the right tools to take off the wheel bearing of my truck and end up cutting my tendon on my pinky.

wow..i'm looking into doing my wheel bearings..I have a CB500 1973...I wish someone would do vids on that stuff, and how easy it is... Can you take a pic of the tool you used..

Just dont forget to drill out the staking or you will try forever and it wont turn either way

Here's pictures I took of the tool I made using a 3" U-bolt for the rear bearing retainer. I bent the legs inward approximately 1/2" to fit the holes in the bearing retainer. I haven't yet done the front wheel so it is possible a different sized U-bolt would be needed. Use any long bar to torque the legs of the U-bolt as seen in the photos. The notoriously very tough rear retainer came off easily using this system.

No the front wheel retainer is not reverse thread, an  there is no drilling involved to remove it, put some heat to it an a flathead screwdriver

The threads were "staked" from the factory on the front retainer
