I need a bowl for a 77A.....
« on: October 04, 2011, 05:44:27 PM »
I need just 1 bowl for the carbs on my 77a.
Its the #1 bowl. Am i correct in saying the
#1,3+4 are the same?
It has a slow leak out the drain on bottom as if the drain screw
hasnt been tightened.
Ive tried changing out the drain screw/needle
and it makes no difference. When i put carb #1's drain screw
in a different carb(that carb) works fine. Somehow theres still a slow leak.
ive tried plugging and tracing it by blowing in the other
orifices and best i can come up with is it leaks either around the
fitting of the brass overflow tube(inside bowl) or from around the drain
on the bottom(outside the carb body)
Ive worked on a hundred carbs and never seen anything like it.
Willing to pay a fair price or tade ya a different motorcycle part or?
Any ideas appreciated also,
Thanx
Tony

I have read that the overflow tube itself can crack, leading to a slow leak.  One solution was heat shrink tubing, or other tubing forced over the overflow tube.  I've also read that some have brazed (or soldered) cracks closed.

I believe that the left two bowls differ from the right two (the orientation of the drain screw - pointing to the right or left).  The parts fiche show 2 of one, and 2 of another - so that's my theory.

Otherwise, that bowl, according to the parts fiche, is the same as from the following bikes:
