Bike wont start unless clutch lever is pulled
« on: October 05, 2011, 04:47:04 AM »
Strange. This just started happening. My CB750 will only crank over if I pull the clutch in. It wasn’t like this before my last ride last week. If the bike was in neutral, I didnt have to pull the clutch.

Without the clutch pulled, I get nothing. The headlight dims when I hit the start button, but no clicking sound or anything. Only when I pull the clutch lever, then the bike will start up. Is there a wire connection that may have come loose?

Some had clutch switches that kept the engine from cranking unless it was in neutral or the clutch pulled in.  Be thankful we don't ride Kawasaki.  They also had a kickstand switch that was prone to failure.

Does the neutral light still light up?  If the neutral switch is bad it would cause your symptoms.
You need to check the starter safety circuit. That includes the clutch switch, the neutral switch, diode and associated wiring.
Grab the manual and break out the wiring diagram.  :)

Yeah, the neutral light works.
