New grips, rubber or foam?
« on: May 15, 2006, 10:42:13 AM »
I currently have "foam" grips such as these:

I managed to tear up the foam trying to "adjust" them when the foam was coming loose.

I'm think of purchasing new grips like these, with rubber inserts:

My bike ('79 cb650) has a pretty intense, high pitched, vibration.  Especially around 5000 RPM.

Does anyone have experience with such grips?
Or, do you think the rubber will dampen the vibration as well as the foam?

Thanks,
Scott

I am very sensitive to vibration as I have hand problems. I have found Gel Grips to work very well. You can buy them from lots of sources including Dennis Kirk.

Nie avitar  ;D

Gel grips are def. the way to go, especially if you have wrist/hand issues such as myself and BobbyR..
Sometime looks ovrepowe comfort, I.E. my oldschool grips I have on my CB. They hurt after a long ride, but look too good to remove.

The pain I take for style  ::)

I use 2 types. One is by Oury and are a softer rubber that look really good. The second is a dual-sport type gel that looks good- I think. 100s of little holes. I think they're from a company called Angra or something.  I'll check at work tomorrow.
If your bars are shaking that much, however, it sounds like maybe yout tire bead isn't seated properly, fork oil is too heavy, it something. Try putting a "bar Snake" in the bars, use bar-end weights, or even better- get some Napoleon bar-end mirrors to dampen the vibes some.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!
