They should be held on by a groove that is formed in the rubber. Warm them well with a heat gun to soften if needed and simply pull or wrangle them off.

Not sure what the tube is you mention,is it what looks like a velocity stack on the inside.Should all be one piece if memory serves me correctly.  http://compare.ebay.com/like/270822440859?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y

The stack is the boot. It is one part. Part way down the stack there are two raised rings and the inner radius of the hole in the airbox fits in between these two rings.

Basically you just have to squash the diameter of the stack down enough to get the inner ridge to pull out through the hole in the airbox and continue squeezing it so that you can pull the bell part of the stack through the hole. Or you can take the airbox apart and pull them out from the inside.

They wail and weep,
The march of the sheep,
As they go to that cross on the wall.

I highly suggest you purchase new couplers.  I have never encountered a set that were pliable enough to seal properly.  Most are also installed in random, and incorrect, rotation in relationship to the carbs.  I bought a new set for $40.00 and they are wonderful to remove and reinstall and seal perfectly.
