Turn signal wiring

Ok, I'm annoyed at this.

I've got the wiring diagram, and I got a new left hand switch that has a different wiring for the turn signals. Instead of the 7 wires, I only have the plain gray, orange, and light blue. I've got these three wired to their leftover equivalents, and all I'm getting is the rear lights lighting up, and not so much a blink as a funky pulsing thing, the lights are not completely turning off, and they don't flash in any sort of rhythm.

Could anyone point me to a suitable replacement for the stock wiring in this situation? Or explain to me how I could tie it all together to work? Or just something to go on, I can't figure out what the diagram is doing.

Sounds like a bad ground.  Those single wire positive sockets require a good ground connection at each signal.

I will definitely check that, I'm thinking that's why the horn has two wires instead of one.
Any idea why the front turn signals have both the solid color and then the white/solid color as well?

edit: Ok the shop manual diagram says turn signal / position light. What the heck is the position light? Does this blinker act as a running light? As in does it stay on at all times? I'm beginning to think that since it's not mandatory in NC I'm just going to totally rewire the turn signal lights at a later date, probably with LEDs.

So is your bike equipped with running lights? Bulbs should have two filaments if it is.
Also does the horn have a short wire attached to the frame or do both wires connect to the harness?
I think you either have the wrong wiring diagram or the wrong switch here.

[Edit] I'm basing that on an experience with my 550. I might be way off here.
