I got a lead on a "sandcast" engine, complete with carbs.
I was just wondering what the price range was on something like this.
Yes, it turns over.

Which is usually in the neighborhood of.....?

Also, have any of you heard of an aluminum frame for CB750's?

It's worth more with a matching numbers frame. However there are lots of people with a frame number that might be considered close enough. Anybodys guess what an aucton could do. Just get it and see.

Was a Rickman frame made of aluminum ?  As to the engine an earlier serial number will probably make it worth more. Also what you have to find ideally if you market it is the guy out there who has a frame with a serial number close to your engine who "HAS" to have it.If its a junker and gets parted out then all the guys can use pieces and parts. How much are they asking ?

I paid $700 for a complete very early sandcast engine that was stuck fast (no broken fins and all the covers intact) and $200 for a set of K0 carbs if that helps. The seller of the engine started at $1200 but kept reducing the price as I thought about it.
Having said that a good sandcast engine is worth what a collector/crazy person is willing to pay for it.

Ok

It's an old guy with 5 sandcast engines with the carbs.
he said he has an aluminum frame that he paid over $3,000 for that he'll just give to me.

He has a lot of bikes, no time, and he knows I'll do something with it.

$800
Deal or no deal?

I know right! Lol

Idk what the aluminum frame is all about, and I would like to be able to sell some of them ( I certainly don't need 5)

I'm pretty sure it's a good deal, just wondering how good.

I'd say much of the value depends on the condition of all the engines, and the frame.  Without more information it's difficult to even approximate.  But, if you're really getting FIVE engines with VIN CB750E 1007414 or earlier, and a period aluminum frame (assuming it's straight, and not damaged)...you can't go wrong.

The guy sounds like a cycle nut, who never got around to doing anything with them, knows I will, but can't bring himself to give them to me for free.

I'm thinking I can sell 4 of them and get enough $$$ to build the other one with the aluminum frame and end up with an awesome free CB750.

Just wondering if the sandcast engines were worth anything special.

Oh yeah, I believe the aluminum frame has never even had an engine mounted in it.

Chances are, of he called them sandcasts, he knows what he has.. and is probably kidding or pulling your leg..
Look for broken cases/fins, not engines that turn over..
If you honestly have to come to a forum to see if 5 diecast motors (let alone sandcasts, AND with carbs) and a custom frame are worth 800 bux, you are simply put.. NOT READY to do this.

Myself, I will be the first to congratulate you of even 2 of them are sandcast.. Frame is maybe NICKLE plated..??

I'll give you 50c  ;D
Rickman used nickel plated choromoly frames.
Spondon did an alloy frame at one time, they will build a frame for just about anything.

I can't, but he knows I want them, and he's not likely to sell it to anyone else. He lives in the middle of nowhere, and works way too much.
