OK so to recap the thread.... King left in disgrace, we had a symposium on serial number vs model number theory, and the kid with the sandcast motors never came back.  I say the old guy with the "motors" is actually a serial killer, can someone go check on excerpt?

So these 'sandcast' were imaginary 'sandcast' afterall, yes? Like the magical 'sandcasts' I have buried in the backyard, next to the pot o' gold?

Just got off the phone with him.

The job he's on right now is going to last about 3 more weeks, and then he should get a few days off.
He said he will definitely call me and let me know what days asap.

Sorry for the delay. I wasn't trying to get everyone worked up, I just wanted to know the approx. value.

This thread is not over. It may take a few weeks to see it through, but they aren't going anywhere!
My friend (the guy that will go with me to get them) picked up a couple of pallets the other day. I guess that would be a good way to bring them back? Strap them to the pallets?

We'll have to use his truck. I don't see 5 engines and a frame fitting in my Jeep.

I really hope that alluminum frame works out. I would LOVE to build a bike with that thing!  ;D

excerpt I'm glad you're still with us.  I genuinely hope you get these motors and the frame and that the motors are indeed sandcast motors.

I would be shocked if they aren't sandcast motors. The guy said he drove really far on 5 different trips to get these things. I can't see him doing that for any old CB750 motor, and then calling them sandcast engines.

Next logical question is: Why would he sell these to me so cheap?
He's a nice guy, too old to do anything with them like he planned, and he knows I will....?? That's all I got.

He said he paid over $3,000 for the frame (and I think it was quite a while ago), and I am absolutely DYING to see that thing! He said he would just "throw that in for free".

I can't wait to post: "On our way to find out what I'm paying $800 for!"

It's worth whatever somebody will PAY for it  ;)

Which is usually in the neighborhood of.....?

Also, have any of you heard of an aluminum frame for CB750's?

Who wants an aluminum frame?

All of those sport bikes with cheap aluminum frames will not be around in 10 years.

When you buy a new Ducati you get a steel tube frame. Quality.

The reason so many people are rebuilding older motorcycles is because they have steel tube frames ,good engines and lots of spare parts.
Also no electronic boxes with propietary plug in features with special plugs.

All that stuff is going to come back and bite these manufacturers.
Designing with plastic and making transformer toy motorcycles. They will all be junk.

Aluminum repairs are only 64% of the strength of the parent metal.
And you should not weld over anodizing. Aluminum condensates 3 times more than steel. Much more of a chance for corrosion.

Duh. ;)
Cheap to build and have to be replaced regularly. That's the business model.

You don't think Honda would rather have us buying new bikes than continue to maintain the bikes they built and sold 30+ years ago?
Have there been any reports of the "cheap" aluminum frames failing?

Well it looks like we got about 3 weeks to bash a few people, talk about a bunch of sheet that doesn't matter and wait it out for the old guy "to get home from work".Guess I will be around, pop a little corn and have a drink and see how this ends. What the Hell,it's getting cold around here anyways. Good Luck our intrepid picker and go forth and gather up the Gold.If the pot is at the end of your rainbow you will have done well and we will all cheer. ;)

I honestly do not understand the disbelief about the seller being away from home for extended periods for work. I have had many, many experiences of this myself; the longest was 7 1/2 weeks.

Got into wondering if someone had received a package across borders, a deal set up here. When he said, didn't I worried, but  then he came back from his two weeks on the job and checked his mail..

Sandcast would be something I got by accident, it would be dead. And fiddy bucks would be pushing it , maybe I'd offer $20 first.

Look guys, please stop with all the accusations of lying. I can understand how you would think that, but I'm not lying. This may not turn out the way he told me (seems pretty incredible to me too), but everything I have told you is the truth.

I wouldn't pull your leg like this. I didn't even want to mention it because it sounded so incredible. I just thought that they may not be worth anymore than $800, and if that was the case, I would probably pass on the deal, because I'm not too crazy about the way the early carbs were set up (4 into 1 cable).
