World Tour 2012
« Reply #75 on: January 16, 2012, 10:41:14 AM »
I like the idea. Anything to get this thing rolling would be great. I know last year I was part of the Rockies ride and while it was a blast, I'd really enjoy doing it in warmer weather. I know there are lots of things that need to come together here for the relay to go down but I like this idea. And this timing would put GZ here in Colorado just in time for Old Bike Ride 10. That would be a good time.

LMFAO!! You shoulda seen this yound stud. I was freezing my ass off and I was layered up. 20 degrees and snow. Lined jeans, hoody with medium jacket over it. I asked Craig if he had more layers. Craig says "I do landscaping. I'll be OK". I thought that he was either nuts or one bad ass dude! Well, he wasn't nuts  ;) No windshield either. Yeah, that Harley rain suit sure came in handy once we made our first gas stop in the mountains huh!

Yes. Yes it did, Jerry. And I'd rather not have to prove how much of a bad ass I can be.

But I will if need be!!!! Hahaha!

Still a bit confused as to where we should sign up.  I like the Indy to Nashville jaunt in May, or ride with whoever is going to do it.

Indy to Nashville is 5 and 1/2 hours riding using RT 231... we'll host any riders that show-up in Nashville at our house, no problem  8).. Beer,B+B and wrenching facilities for chain adjusting and lubing ( yeah, that's all that would be needed on a SOHC ! ).

According to Madmt's map, the kickoff is in Cali! Can you guys start organizing?
Might be best to start NorCal heading south and over to AZ.

Not so far. :( Last year, we only had one rider from the Phoenix area! I was a bit disappointed that we had more riders from the tiny town of Kingman than the rest of the state...

What are your thoughts of shipping it from state to state when/if necessary?
It would make it much easier to manage in the large states such as AZ, NM + TX.

Not to mention small provinces like Quebec & Ontario,1 rider each, so far, just sayin.., might be a good backup plan.

Spanner1, 231 here in Indiana would start in Greencastle, IN.  Then the road turns into SR 67 as it goes toward Vincennes, In.  Would that be right?  Any idea where I can get the whole Indiana-Tennessee route?

I'm not sure who your comment is directed to, RR, but I have to side with Mickey on that.  It really wouldn't be a relay if the mascot is mailed around the country.  Across an ocean is one thing, but across state lines is another.

We don't seem to be getting the rider participation as yet,  that we did on the last one.  So if we want to keep it a "true" relay, we'll have to do a little more route juggling along  the way & maybe bypassing some states/provinces to achieve this, perhaps. IMO  Ultimately I'm good with whatever works.

Last year, a lot of people were saying that the 2011 relay was the warm-up for the "real thing" in 2012.  A lot of people said that they weren't going to be ready for 2011, but would be this year.  There are a few people stepping up, but no where near what is needed to get this off the ground.  And if someone doesn't grab the reins soon like Jerry did last year, ain't nuthin gonna happen.

I've been saying all along that 2011 was the real thing.  At this point, I think it may be realistic to lower the bar and do something different.  I'd love to be proved wrong, though, and see a relay happen again so that those that couldn't ride last year can participate.

I think everyone is getting a bit anal about the whole thing, for a start its a world tour and we are already missing 100's of countries {impossible to get them all} and GZ travels by air in between because our bikes don't do water well, so it is never going to the kind of rally some are wanting here..... Just saying.... ;)
