Please don't shout
« on: October 11, 2011, 01:11:16 AM »
Hello. My name is Jon and I am from Wakefield in the UK.

Just bought myself a 1978 CB750KZ as a project bike and my mate told me to come join this forum as it is for CB's. I see however though that this is for SOHC and mine is a DOHC. I am really struggling though to find any useful information on the model, or a forum like this that is dedicated to them. Is there a section on here for the DOHC outcasts? Or does anyone know where I could find some more info on the bike?

Am told it was previously registered overseas but not sure even which country it would have originated from. Any ideas?

What is the KZ reference for on the end of the model name? And what makes this different from some of the of the other models like the CB750K ?

So many questions  ::)

Well then, a big shout out "Welcome Aboard!". I have never heard of a 78' DOHC CB750 and I have never seen the "KZ" desigination. I thought the DOHC 750 started in 79'. You are definitely going to have to post pictures of that. There is a thread "Other bikes" and many members here have owned a DOHC or two (or twelve).

As it was previously registered overseas it is a "declared manufactured 1978" although I suspect it very well could be a 1979. Here is a picture of the bike when I picked it up on Sunday. It is not standard though as it has cafe racer style clip-ons on and none original clocks.

And here is what it looks like after a couple of hours in the garage with it last night.

Chassis number starts R2012 and engine number starts 2006 if that helps anyone to identify it for me.

Welcome to the forum...Larry

Thanks for the link. From that it seems most like the 1979 bike with some different wheels on from one of the other models,  and with a different exhaust. Just doesn't say anything on there about the "Z" edition i.e. KZ

You might try: http://www.cb750c.com/  for more specific info about the DOHC's.

And howdy! Pretty bike.

The "KZ" designation seems to be for the general export or Euro models perhaps.
