petcock question
« on: November 18, 2011, 07:47:03 AM »
This is the first time i've taken the petcock out of my tank, so forgive me if this is a dumb question...

Im getting ready to line my tank so last night i pulled the petcock out.  The petcock came out without the screen, and then i had a heck of a time getting the screen out separately.  I ended up buggering the end a bit, but i will be replacing it anyway so its not a problem.  My question is is it supposed to be separate like that?  what keeps the screen from just falling into the tank otherwise?  Also, where is the best place to buy a new one?

Thanks for putting up with me,
Scott

It has broken off at the bottom, the other plastic section should still be in the petcock.

ok thanks, i looked at a parts diagram and it looked like it had another part, like a gasket, that went with it.  there is a black o-ring/gasket lookin piece still in the petcock, is that it?

ok, good.  Thanks for the quick replys guys, i'll get a new one ordered.  It appears to have been broken off for quite a while then, there was no resistance whatsoever when i pulled the rest of the petcock out, but that screen was practically glued to the sides of the hole, i had to pry it out with a small screwdriver

My petcock won't shut off, period. Itr just keeps flowing all over the ground. Not sure what the problem is. It didn't come with a screen or a filter unfortunately.
