Some time ago I put one of my Sanglas (spanish make) bikes for sale. Bone stock, with less than 10.000k on the odo. A guy calls me and say he is interested, he is new to bikes and is looking for something classic-looking. I was out of town so we agreed he would call me back in some days.
And so he did, just to tell me politely that he saw another add for another bike, went to see it and bought it in the spot! I knew the other bike, it was a build from a guy I knew. The build looked cool, but the bike had a complete mix-and-match of parts from different years. Long story short, he paid more for a build than what I was asking for an almost-new, bone stock bike.
The guy simply bought the bike with the crotch instead of the brain. I have done that myself. No-brake bikes look dangerous, and some people want to look dangerous. They will ride their bikes with the crotch instead of their brain.
As long as they don't hurt anybody, that's allright by me. That could never happen in Spain, you would not pass DMV inspection without a front brake. Kingcustomcycles cater for a niche market, and as long as you are taught braking techniques to get your driving licence, you should know how important a front brake is. It is not Kingcustomcycles's fault. As somebody said, even if he installs a front brake, the owner can always remove it.
At the end of the day, nobody can force you to use it and you can always ride a bike with a double disc front brake and never use it.....
I like the looks of rigid bikes but I don't think I would ride any for longer than 20 or 30 miles. Those bikes are, in my opinion, great for looking and I get more pleasure from bikes by riding them than by noticing people looking at them.
In any case, I've learnt from this thread that the "King" came from Jesus. I always thought he nicknamed himself as the "king of custom cycles" and that seemed pretentious to say the least. In any case, as I remember he had a picture of -presumably- himself in the avatar, if he is as old as he looks he should be grown up enough to stand some criticism, that from what I read at the beginning, was pointed at the bike and not at the person. I also have put much time on my bikes and still I'm able to see them as external apendages from me, that is, you can think my bike is crap and that will just mean you don't like the outcome of my work.
If he just vanishes because a few guys don't like his work, what should do bike engineers when they design a bike and it becomes a sales flop? There is definitely much more work and money involved, and nobody is taken to the execution wall. Lesson learnt, page turned and let's move on to a new design......
