Slipper Tensioner for the Road????
« on: October 12, 2011, 02:03:46 pm »
Any one run one on the street?
are they safe to use?  what needs to be known to make them work on the street?
are the M3 and the cycle X parts the same?

The CB650's factory tensioner is of the "slipper" type. I don't see any disadvantage, IMO.

They will work fine, probably better, and if they can survive the ravages of racing i see no reason as to why they wouldn't work just as well on the street. Lots of bikes use slipper guides. I am using them on my bikes without hesitation. {i am a fussy bugger}  ;)

Guess i was more thinking that a race part wears out faster or is normally checked more often then a street part

Correct,  but like i said, there are lots of bikes using this type of tensioner, they are simpler and have no moving parts......... ;)

For example my GS 1100 racebike... I built it from a crashed streetbike with stock tensioner and 220000km on the clock.
I replaced the tensioner guide with some hi-tech stuff the big boys use but the old one was still in useable condition  ;)

No difference road or track, it's just a tensioner - go for it...
