Taking the 500 down for rebuild
« on: October 13, 2011, 07:08:47 PM »
I'm switching to the FZR for the rest of the year.
My poor 500 has had it. I think it's time to put it in the shed for a slow fall/winter/spring rebuild.
I'm getting oil in cylinder one. Rear wheel bearings are shot. Swingarm bushings are worn out.
I can hear air leaking from a shock. Cam chain is making noises it shouldn't. Valves are clattering, and my brakes scream like a banshee.
I'm hoping to get it all back together and running perfectly by springtime. Money is tight but I think I can do it one area at a time an have it ready by then.
I post up a rebuild thread when I'm close to done, or when I run into major problems.
Enjoy your CBs guys. I'll certainly miss riding mine during the rebuild

One more thing.
Is 300 dollars a good price for getting the cylinders rebored?

If that includes piston kits hell yes! Here in UK just the rebore is £120($180 ish) for cash loose the taxes
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!
