It lives!!!
« on: October 12, 2011, 06:34:28 pm »
Finally got the big motor together in the bike and running.
There's nothing better than the sound of a 1200cc methanol burning SOHC. ;D
We are taking it down to a mates car dyno on Saturday to check AFR and knock the sharp edges off.
Then it's of to Broadford in Victoria for a shake down meeting in two weeks before we head to Tasmania for the national titles starting on November the 15th.
I hope it holds together, this motor has always been a bit of a problem child.
But this time we have dropped the compression ratio to try and regain a bit of reliability.
If not the little motor is just about ready to go.
Just waiting on new sleeves from Dynoman.
We ran a good honest second at the titles last year.
Hopfully we can go one better this time around, the only trouble is their getting younger and faster and we're getting older and slower.

Cheers,
Brian

Thanks Sam, that got my adrenaline going this morning. ;D One thing I've noticed about all the on-board camera videos is that the mic is facing forward: at one point on the starting line, only the two-stroke could be heard. It would be nice to be able to place a mic near the exhaust, but from what I've read, these new cameras don't have jacks for external mics.

Silly Mick ;D ;D ;D ;D that's not Brian with the camera, He's long since gone.
He started at the back of the grid, look for him going through into the first corner, #92 at 1min 29secs.

Simon,

The track's at a place called Broadford.
It's about an hour north of Melbourne. And your right, it's a terrific little track. A lot of fun to ride and all ways seems to provide good close racing.
It's part of a complex owned and operated by the controlling body for motorcycle sports in Victoria.
The complex also has Motocross, Speedway, Dirt Track and an Enduro Track.

Cheers,
Brian

OK

After a three hour session on the dyno it looks as though we may have solved a lot of the issues we have had with this motor. (touch wood) :D
An increase in ignition advance of 2deg and reducing our mains from #220 to #190 gave us an extra 10% off the bench.
So it's of to Broadford next weekend for a shakedown.

I took some video for Scottly but I've never tried to upload a vid. to this forum before, any clues?

Cheers,
Brian

Thanks, Brian! It sure has a much deeper tone than my motor; I guess because it's half-again larger. 8)

That's what envelopes are for Mike.
The Nationals will be run at Symmons Plains in Tasmania it has two very long fast straights, so with my weight we will need all the ponies we can get our hands on.
The plan is to use this motor for the titles down there as well as the Philip Island Classic in January and then run the little motor for the rest of the year.
I'm under no illusions about the longevity of this motor.
We are budgeting on around 100hrs.

Cheers,
Brian
