I'm taking a trip on my bike to New Mexico from Vermont
« on: October 13, 2011, 04:35:39 PM »
I'll be heading down to Lafayette, La. for the Blackpot music festival then heading to Albuquerque.  I have friends in Asheville so I'll make a stop there on the way down.  Any idea for sights to see along the way?  I'll be slabbing it most of the way since I love Interstate 81.  Anybody that welcomes a wayward traveler with a couch or even a guest bedroom is awesome in my book.  I'm leaving next weekend on my Concours.  The SOHC is not fit for this long of a ride.  I'd love to meet up with members here and out faces and real names to forum names.----Cake

WTF is a concourse?  Sounds like ford (?) amd warm and dry, not  some suzuki bvd thing?

Where are you going in New Mexico?  Can I go?  We  can   go see Merle Haggard?

If you come back up to I-40 and I-35 I can find the beds, clean sheets etc, but you might have to clear some sh8 off them. (clean clothes mostly).  Couch is mine.

Arbucles, turner falls, ten acre rock, ouachitas, blue river google things around the state of OK.

I know most the roads from here to phoenix if you need somewhat local knowledge if you leave interstate.

Here's the haggard dates:

Merle Haggard at Route 66 Casino | Albuquerque, NM Fri , Oct 21

Merle Haggard at Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino | Mescalero, NM Sun , Oct 23

Tree, a concourse is defined as;

1.an assemblage; gathering: a concourse of people.
2.a driveway or promenade, especially in a park.
3.a boulevard or other broad thoroughfare.
4.a large open space for accommodating crowds, as in a railroad station.
5.an area or grounds for racing, athletic sports, etc.

But a Concours is a Kawasaki sport/tourer that's been around at least  20 years!!

And what's this obsession with Merle Haggard?

Ahh, I thought there was  a ford concourse . Maybe it's concorde and is merc or buick.

Merle? He's the real deal, and only so many shows left before he will play no more shows. Hopefully hew will be closer when some November dates are announced.

Perhaps get another autograph on my new sunburst.

So what is your route going to be? Sounds like you probably won't be coming up KC way but if you do you are welcome to stay a night at the Dojo del Dukie.  :)

I am closer to 95 than 81 but stop by if you touch DC/NoVA -  sleep space available.

When are you going?

I'll be in Lafayette before halloween.  I'll be rolling out to NM after that or sooner.  Where are you Fiddy?  I'm lookng at I-35 to get back to 40 for the short trip across Tx.  I do have a buddy in Austin, though.  My plan is a loose one.

Dukie.  That KC might work out as I also have a friend in Denver.  I'll be watching the weather on my way back and surfing the warmer temps east.

Best bet is for you all to send me your contact info and I'll call you at three in the morning needing a place to sleep.

Thanks for the DC invite but I won't be heading that way.
I am heading out next Thursday or Friday, depending on rain and such.  I have plenty of time to get there.  I have Asheville, Lafayette and Albuquerque covered but anywhere in between, I'll need a place to sleep.

Before you dismiss the idea of a D.C. stop, it's just over an hour from 81.  My bike ain;t running, and I have no extra sofa, but I'd drive out to see ya.  I'm tied up Saturday, and am leaving for Williamsburg Sunday, so if your by here on Friday, I could be around.

I'm just south of OKC- University town.

35 can be a fustercluck around DFW.  West of there a bit is texas SH 16 which I love. Smooth road  not much traffic, small towns spread apart-  keep track of your fuel gage.  16 goes north out of Kerrvile, a hundred miles or less west out of Austin.

LBJ's ranch is there, National historic site, a couple hill country towns.  Watch out for the deer, there seems to be a plague of them last I was down there, and they seem to like to graze the bar ditches at night.

A music friend of mine was born in Pauls Valley.  Do you have a couch?   Sure you can go to New Mexico with me.  Anyone can tag along as long as they have their own bike.
Regarding Merle, I saw him last year at a festival I work at.  He was good, but his son played for most of the set.  He came out and sang a few of his songs.  Come on down to Lafayette and meet me at the Black Pot Cajun Festival.  There's some great music there.  My buddy is playing there and he writes like Merle.  No. Really.  He does.  Give a listen:

If you head towards Denver from Albuquerque and it's on a Sa-Tu/Wed you have a nice place to stop over in Colorado Springs. I'm 1 mile off I-25. Bring swim trunks, the hot tub is ready and running at 104 just 10 minutes ago.

Sounds great!  Pm me your contact info.  My return trip is subject to change meaning I can either go to Denver and home or San Fran then home or neither.  Lots of options and I'm keeping it open. Thanks!!

....But of course. I knew I had heard of a car called concourse before, I think my brother even had one as a company car.  The northstar or 8-6-4 thing actually got us 30 mpg sometimes.
