Cb750 shifter shaft seal
« on: October 14, 2011, 07:20:10 AM »
Im going to replace this seal on my 750 today, is removal of side cover necessary to do it corrrectly or can shaft seal be removed and replaced without taking cover off bike. Just want to be sure to do it right the first time.

thanks

It can be done w/o removal of cover. Pick the old seal out CAREFULLY, don't scratch the shift shaft. Maybe drill 2 small holes 180deg apart, thread in skinny screws to use to pull the seal out.

Put some lube on the inside edge of the seal where it will pass over the splines on install.

Better if you can remove the cover, have a gasket handy. I'd say most mechanics would not remove the cover, though, for expediency sake.
