Highest Market?
« on: September 30, 2011, 09:44:43 AM »
Just curious. Bikes seem to be pretty reasonable in ok shape in upstate NY still. You can find a 750 for around or below $1000. I was just wondering in what parts of the country are the CB prices off the charts. What about Canada?

They're expensive here in the South. Upwards of $1000. I saw a 350 going for $1500 recently

You two should get together and grab them upstate and send them South.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Take a look at the SF Bay Area Craigslist and see what kinda asking prices we're dealing with...Good bikes at cheap prices don't last a day on CL here... :(

Bikes tend to get high mileage and wear out in the south.  Many get parked and forgotten over the winter in the North.

Can't touch a running or even decent CB out here for less than a grand.  Most are asking $1500 or more even for some project bikes.

The south is tough, I agree.  That non running, titled 650 I picked up for $250 was a steal for where I am...

In Canada a clean, running CB750 is going to be $2 to $3K.

Even 400f s routinely go for over $2000 in the Seattle area. CB550s as well if they are in good shape. 750s can fetch over $3000 but they need to be complete and titled.

when i was looking even the snorters were going for 1500 here in nc, saw one for a grand.  most in good shape went for 1500 to 3000.  although i did see what i thought was a good deal on a "running" 750 + a part bike for 500.  IDK if it was actually running or if he meant that that one had the most chances of running.

Depends on the year and model, I could guarantee you wouldn't find a sandcast for that much upstate unless the seller was a complete idiot or extremely generous.

I think CB bikes in urban areas will generally fetch higher prices. Of course, in cold climates, it will also depend on the time of year. Here in Chicago, I've seen prices range from $1000 to $3000. It doesn't mean deals can't be had. I just picked up a titled, running 550 for $400.

My CB750 was listed on craigslist for $2500 and I got it for $2000.  It runs well but needs a brake light fix and a tune.  Most bikes here are pretty expensive with most non op ones around $700, fixer uppers around $1200 and good runners for $2000.  My 1971 was the only 750 I have seen in 6 months on CL.

I searched over a year for mine and finally found one on CL this past July. All original (minus the extended forks and pipes) 73 CB750K with 15k miles.  The asking started at 2700 I watched it drop as each week went by. The guy was leaving for China and started to panic. I picked up for 1,600.

Thanks to the cafe movement unmolested examples are becoming harder and harder to find and thier value will only keep going up as years pass. If I were to try and sell mine today I think I can easily get 2k for it.

Central Valley California is an interesting market.

You see crazy high prices for medium condition bikes...

on the other hand, if you are patient a nice example will come along for a great price. Especially if it is up in the Sierra Gold Country or CalNevada area.

I think some of the high prices come from Bay Area Transplants that think the market out here can support what they paid for it in SF.

Here is one in Reno for $5200... but probably a deal if it is original and not a piece-together.

The older the bike the better and the price and it depends on where you sell it. Here is a bike a guy I know,  who sells bikes a lot has one for sale on E-bay right now in severely depressed Michigan. I went and checked it out in person on 9/29 and by the time I got home it was going for more than I would give. It's a 71 which is a good year with some original paint and parts. The key to 'value' is condition, condition, whether it is a descent survivor or a well done cafe. The market will dictate,if marketed correctly what that value may be.    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/?cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649&item=290614629585&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Ehhh, there was a CB750A for $1500 a while ago. But Most people want too much for one that is worn out.

Theres a CL70 for sale thats at the bargain price of $900! :/ Though If you want a HD or a Supersport bike you can find them all over the place.

Hi everyone,

I'm new, and looking to get my first bike.  Can you guys give any advice on pricing for Southern California?  Are the prices listed by dpuma reasonable for this area?  The prices seem extremely high down here.  A bunch of 750 runners down here upwards of $4,000 and non-op/fixer-uppers upwards of $1,200.  CB/CL 175 for $1,000 to $2,000.

In baltimore there's a pretty steady stream of unfinished "project bikes" going for $1000 and up. I dont know if anyones actually buying them but they are there. My favorite one was a guy who was selling a chopped up goldwing as a cafe project, i bet they were beatin down his door to get a hold of that gem ;)

Here in Ontario I have seen fully a restored 77 CB 750K asking price $6500 several CB 550's in good clean condition asking prices seem to be about $3000, project bikes asking prices seem to be $600-$1500 These are asking prices the bikes are still for sale and have not sold so I guess they are priced above market or people here are still weary of the economy and it's ummm supposed recovery.
