CR750 Dick Mann replica at Stafford
« on: October 15, 2011, 05:53:43 am »
Flying visit to Stafford Classic show this morning and saw a Dick Mann CR750 replica in the outside plts for sale. It was a tidy enough replica but nothing more than a standard SOHC650 with some polished bits, a road and track cam and the usual CR750 tank and seat. I always ask the price of these things to compare againt my own CR750 replica which I immodestly think is a reasonable attempt. The stall holder ummed and ahhed a bit and then said "It took me two years to build this and nearly £8000. If you push me you can have it for £14,000"!

I walked away and bought a cup of coffee instead :D

Anyone else see it? I wonder is someone stumped up the £14k he was asking....?

yes i did and i think you are being far to kind , it was rubbish
almost all the racing bikes where over priced , which i think is the norm for stafford these days , there was a nice mk8 rg in one of the back halls [ steve griffith was selling it ]  that i am tempted with though

Yep, I saw it too and agree with Simon. A Dick Mann replica it was not. I think It's been on flea-bay recently with a starting tag of £10000, obviously didn't sell, which is not surprising really. However, to be fair it was a nice cafe racer sort of thing, but if the vendor gets half of what he's asking he should consider himself lucky.

Outside there was an interesting Greeves frame for £350 and on the same stand a Tony Foale frame for a Suzuki (500 I think).

My daughter went last night and looked at it took plenty pics, close up not as good as the pic you saw, so I offered him less, they will only now be waking up so will see what happens later. I can send you her pics if you want to see them, an interesting story about early ownership and getting the title. I spoke to shipping agent this morning to see how things work, I would need to get it to Chicago but cost not a lot more than New York, they do not ship as often as from NY, they have just starting loading a container.

That is what I thought, didn't get a chance to talk to owner about it.
