CB550 Cafe build completed - picture heavy
« on: October 15, 2011, 10:34:07 AM »
So I have been building my CB550 Cafe for a while, I started it in February when I bought it.  Stripped it down completely, rebuilt the engine and tried to make it exactly how I visioned it in my brain.

I have finally finished the bike to a standard that I am happy with and I have to say I am very proud of the bike.

I have also taken some new photo's of it to show it off.

I cannot believe how much fun it was to build, long nights, many problems, frustrations and a fair amount of blood spilled.  But damn I enjoyed it so much.

This is actually the 1st bike that I have ever built and cannot wait to do another in the future.

I am happy with the fact that every job on the bike was done by myself, so I had to sort those problems out methodically and patiently (oh yeah of course I was patient  ;) ;D)

I hope you all like it....

Very nice job!  Plenty of details to keep the eyes drawn to the bike - all the way down to the dice as air stem caps!  Have fun with it.

I love your headlight, I may have to steal that and use on my 750!

Also, how loud is that sucker? those pipes look horny!

You did an excellent job on the bike WOW.
A lot of good workmanship.
Can you tell us of any mods to the engine?

BTW that filter on the breather hose from the engine is going to cause you problems.
Hot oily gases escape from that hose and by putting that filter thing on the end of the hose will not filter the gases at all it will just collect all that oily stuff and start to drip out of all the holes all over you and the bike. It would be better to take that silly filter off and just route the hose downward to atmosphere or to a small seperator bottle to be thrown out from time to time. In the end those hot gases have to escape someway ,you just want the condensed oily waste to not get all over the bike or your garage floor.  You can get the original Honda CB750 seperator and it is even smaller than a Honda RC51 seperator

The engine has been fully rebuilt, but I have put a CB650 cam on it, basically that is all.

As for the filter, thanks for the advise, I will change it.

Curtis, the headlight is a CEV Tipo 105 which is from a Vespa scooter but I have fitted a halogen bulb in it.

As for the pipes, they are a mish mash, 2 of the pipes are from the CB550 2 are from a CB650 and the 4 into 2 collector is from a CB650 also.  It is VERY loud.

Nice job on your bike. I just bought a 500t tank waiting for it to arrive is nice to see how it will look like by looking at yours. What tail section is that one you made or bought? I like the lines of it. Again very nice build..
