Hello from Minnesota
« on: October 15, 2011, 02:18:17 PM »
Just picked up a 75 CB550 from a friend at work. After seeing Cafe Racer on TV I had mentioned to him that I would really like to have a project bike to turn into a Cafe. I had stated that I was looking for a CB550 and that they seemed a little harded to find around here. That when he said, hell, I have one that has been sitting in the back of a cargo van for the last 25 years. He had bought it new when he was 14 and it has only 6200 miles on it. He basically gave it to me with the stipulation that he gets to take it for a ride once I am done with it. So far I have it completely stripped down to the frame and have removed all of the excess tabs. I am leaving the engine work for the winter since I can rebuild it in the basement. I have come across a couple of problems though that I am hoping I will be able to find some help with the answers on this fourm. Sorry for the long story.

First off, welcome from Texas!

No apology necessary, that is a great story and deal!! The bike almost looks too good to chop up but it's your bike.

Is the bike in running condition?  I am sure that whatever issue you are having, it has been covered here before. Use the search feature and don't ever hold back from asking a question 'cause you think it is dumb.

Thanks,
I have spent some time looking through past posts and know there are alot of you with great knowlage of these bikes. This fourm will help alot I'm sure. And no the bike was not running when I recieved it. Needs a bit of carb work along with a bit of work on the forks.
