Rear Brake Upgrade For a 78' cb750f
« on: October 15, 2011, 04:05:11 PM »
I am restoring a 1978 cb750f. It is missing the rear master cylinder and the caliper is pretty rusted out. What would be my best option for the rear break setup? Are there any caliper/master cylinder combinations from other bikes that would work on this model? If need be I am willing to get new bracket, caliper and cylinder but I want to know that they will work together.

Any help is much appreciated!

I have read on this post http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=89771. that the 82' cb900f rear bracket, caliper and master cylinder will bolt on.

Does anyone know if the 82' cb900c or custom works as well?

So the bracket will work, I just have to flip the caliper around on it?

my 76 750F i am using the rear master cylinder off a 2006 Suzuki Gsxr600.  had to make a mounting bracket for it and another for the reservoir.  pretty simple and straight forward.

I used a rear master cylinder off of a 92 ZX11. Made a simple bracket from flat aluminum stock and the reservoir bolted right in the stock location. Have not changed out the rear caliper yet- i just bought a kit from Honda and rebuilt it.

No the bracket will not work, nor will the caliper

while that is a practical a straight forward answer i would like to offer my opinion. if you have the desire, know how, and patience it is possible to make almost anything work. the rear brake that you posted was designed to be place on the left side of a shaft driven motorcycle but this does not mean you could flop the brake stay towards the bottom of your swing arm and flip the caliper. you could even grab a swingarm from a k model with a drum brake setup which already has the tab welded to the bottom side.

there are easier solutions such as locating a later f model setup as you already know about. i just wanted to let you know that you have other options. do what you want to do.
