'reload' shocks
« on: November 30, 2011, 03:35:31 pm »
I have an old CL90 and the back shocks are shot. The springs are fine, but they don't damp the ride at all anymore. I can retrofit other shocks, but the originals are sort of singular in their look, and I'd like to keep them. Looking at this diagram, the cartridge is seperate, do you think I could re-seal and fill it with oil?

Can you still buy the seals Phil.? That will be the main thing as well as the oil, that needs replacing...

I have my doubts.. But looking at that photo, the shock absorber part looks like one unit. I'm thinking of drilling and tapping a hole and putting some oil in , plugging with an Allen screw.. Only the bushings seem available from dealers.

if you can get the old seal out, take it to a bearing supply store, or measure the id od and thickness, should be able to get a seal that way.

I agree, nothing will work for long without new seals...
