CB750 wiring is kicking my butt
« on: October 17, 2011, 06:21:06 AM »
I am trying to wire my 76 CB750K. I bought an aftermarket harness that is supposed to be a direct replacement for the stock harness. I have it almost finished but I can't get the start button to work, horn won't work, the turn signals come on but they won't flash and the coils are getting really hot. I am using aftermarket switchgear. Thanks for the help.  :o

Thats going to be a tough one to address here.  Which aftermarket harness?  Which schematic are you using?  Does the harness match your year exactly or is it "universal"?
36 years of this stuff, here to help.

Post a pic of the aftermarket switch gear or better yet a wiring diagram for them.
The horn button grounds out to the bars to complete the circuit on a stock 76.
The turn signals are they LED or stock.  The turn signals will have two connections to the stock harness each one will have a running light connection and a connection for flashing.

Where did you get this aftermarket harness.  No doubt one of the knowledgeable boys will be along soon with more help.

Wiring changed a lot round about then

Do you have the headlight on all the time type

what is the switchgear from(pictures of internals and wiring colours would help)
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

Hey guys, thanks for the fast response, the wiring harness was from CB750Supply and is supposed to be a direct replacement although it is for a 75, although all the schematics I have have slightly different colors. This bike was a basket case so alot of the parts are from various years. The switchgear are universal types that I purchased from a place online that specializes in them. I will post pictures as soon as I can...I'm not with the bike right now. I'm thinking the horn is not properly grounded.

Also I forget to mention, the turn signals are not LED they are dual filament types. I will also post pictures of them as well. Thanks, Steve
