Oops left out O-ring on Wheel Bearing Install.....
« on: October 18, 2011, 06:07:22 PM »
Well I'm an idiot and left out the O-ring shown below on the rear wheel hub.

I've already installed the bearing retainer and punched the threads in four places to keep it from coming loose.
So my question is should I run it or will the missing O-ring cause damage, vibration or both on the inside of the hub?

Thanks

So brake dust and road dust get into the other half of the hub... Okay I can live with that.

Thanks dave500

I think that o ring is applied over the hub. There should be a groove for it. It doesn't go under the staked bearing retainer.

the oring is as said just a dust cover and mine has been split for years and the last time I took the hub apart did not notice any real need for it
