Yeah, the grooves and the metal grates on the bridge- kinda feel the same to me..  I just try to finess my way through it- just focus on being smooth and let the bike do it's thing.

No, those uneven pavement joints someone else brought up here earlier- those scare the crap outta me!  They run the direction of traffic, and sometimes meander across a lane instead of just between two lanes..  This things suck bigtime.  I usually try to cut a little wide, and then cross over at a more acute angle if possible.  This is not always possible in heavy but fast moving traffic.

I've driven the bike over it also.  No worse than rotomilling but nothing I'd ride on all day.  The bridge is cool on the bike cause you can look past your feet and see water.
Funny I like bridges but about once a month I have a nitemare of falling off one.

Yeah, that's how I feel on some of these grooved highways out here in California. They make these grooved lanes that are great to keep cars from hydroplaning but you take your old 750 on them with the pizza cutter wheels and you think you have a flat tire or something. The first time I got out on one of these roads,I was jazzed...Yeah bikes runnin' great ...let's go....got up to like 70 and it scared the #$%* out of me.

SoCal roads I do know. I know anything under 80mph around Oceanslime will leave you feeling like a slot car. Scarry bunch of roads as far as I am considered. This is the area I learned to ride. The Pacific Coast Highway, something I will never do again if I can help it - bumper to bumper at 100mph.

Since I switched to Dunlop gt501's I don't have a problem with the grooved highways anymore.  I used to have metzler me77 and they were horrible on it.

As I understand it, the grating on the Big Mac are to relieve air pressure from updrafts. They are only on the left lanes in both directions. Once you get north of the Gaylord area, during the winter months, the winds can be fierce up that way. Above a certain speed (forget what it is) they actually close the bridge. Some years ago a small car, Yugo, with a single occupant was blown off the bridge. Must have been a terrifying last few seconds as it is 155 feet to the water from bridge center.

Found this link to info. on the bridge. The second photo is a good shot of the steel grating of the two inner lanes.

Has anyone been on the new bridge up in Nova Scotia on a bike?
I heard it is very high off the water.
Will try to get there this year and check it out.
peace,
michel

There are a couple of sections of grooved highway around here. They used to not bother me at all, then i got a new back tire, and the wiggles started.  A little scarry at first, but im used to it now, Im guessing the steel grate bridge will feel like this only a little more exadurated.

What new bridge in Nova Scotia?  Do you mean the "Confederation Bridge" from NB to PEI?  That one has high concrete sides to help stop the wind for cars, if the wind gets to high they close it to high sided trucks and campers as well as bikes.  If your in a car you can't see #$%* driving across it.
