1978 CB750K A REAL BARN FIND!
« on: March 16, 2011, 10:22:07 PM »
Found this bike on craigslist. The guy said it had been in a barn for at least 10 years. The last plates were 1999. It was in a town in southern Ohio about 2 hours from my home. The guy said he would meet me about 8 miles from his house because it was all dirt backroads from there. There was a duck sitting on the bike when I got there. Tires were flat and the whole area out of the barn was mud. When I met him he said "your gonna get that perddie truck all dirty" But for a couple hundo I have a project with a title.
And I got to see the "Largest pig in Ohio" (Hold the jokes) No it wasn't his sister! I have some pics to download of the teardown. I'm sure I will be needing parts and will have some for sale. I'm disabled but I love bikes and enjoy the restoration projects. :o

Welcome to the madness. Looks like a fun project. Does the motor turn over via the kicker? And what happened to the duck?   ;D

Looks like a fun find!  I'm working on the same year/model, so I look forward to seeing what you do with it.  If you aren't going to use the pipes, and they're in good shape, I've first dibs!

Now the bike needs a name - might I suggest "Donald" or "Daffy?" :D

OK now we can get on with the show!!! Got a complete gasket set. Hex head bolt set on its way. Actually two different sets. Gonna work on more cleaning and polishing. Need to get a set of rings. First to get the jugs bored. Been years since I had this done. Don't know who to use in the Columbus Ohio area. Ideas?
This is my 550 cafe I had over 20 years ago. Loved that bike...Oh yea said that already.

Nice looking pile of electrics you have there ::).  You have your work got out.  I had a seized 400 four that would have had to been rebored but I found a good cylinder.  Welcome...Larry

If you start buffing make sure you get a good respirator. That dust is really bad for your lungs. Don't just get a little paper mask. Watch there are several ones that filter different things. I got an OK good one at HD for less than 30.00
Oh yea here are the pipes.....junk!
I think I'm all caught up with the pics now. got a few pics of Dick Mann's Daytona bike from the AMA museum. Gotta figure out what area to put those in.
