As mentioned earlier I am doing my best to keep this bike original. By that I mean I am not planning to do any chrome. Just going to keep it the way it was when I found it since it had very minimal oxidation or rust. Yesterday I had a chance to detail the rear fender area by removing it and the tail light. It cleaned up very nice. No dents. The only thing of any significance is the tire sticker on the back fender is lifting at the edges. I know Yamiya has them if I decide to replace it. Hope to get the rear tire and chain on in the next day and then progress to the front.

Looks good to me.  The main thing is if it's got any fade going on, which it doesn't look like it does.  To me, that looks the worst with the stickers.

Looking good John!

I'm going to have to get some detailing tips from you. That is, if you don't mind giving up some of your secrets :D

My two cents: keep the original, peeling sticker.  It adds character, and retains originality.

Today I cleaned out the bleeder valve so I could run some fluid through the system just to clean out the lines before I rebuild the caliper and master. Got the bleeder cleaned out and added some fluid to the master and the handle did not want to move. Was not real sure if it was a clogged line, stuck master piston or stuck caliper piston. Ruled out the caliper piston by disconnecting the line at the caliper. Turned out a little more pressure on the handle did indeed push the fluid through. I think it was the master piston that was stuck. Some pretty nasty stuff there. I can imagine the gunk that is sitting in the bottom of the caliper.

That fluid hasn't been changed out in a while!
Fork oil looks the same way when you change it out, very milky and stinks like "Sheep Piss"

Today I got the new x-ring chain and rear tire back on the bike. Then completed the packing of the steering head upper and lower balls. I chose not to put tapered on this bike with only 5,310 miles as the races and balls show no sign of wear or denting. Steering felt good during the test ride this fall too. Next comes removal of the forks for rebuilding and polishing.

Thanks Hall...it is coming along faster than I thought. I was not planning on moving to fast with hunting, holidays and my sons wedding coming up Jan. 7th. I am on vacation this week and moving right along, but I expect to slow up now. Happy New Year all!!!

Eric..."Pipe of the Month" starts in January or maybe February depending on how much this wedding costs me on Jan. 7th. December was "Muffler Heat Shield of the Month".  ;D Still trying to get the PO to find and send me the exhaust spigots and clamps. Just sent him another E mail. He says he just has to get down to his shop to locate them.

My wife could not get off work this week between the holidays so I have been able to spend more time on the bike than intended. No snow here in WI so I don't have to spend time shoveling either. Yesterday I removed the front end and brake system. Cleaned most of that up and today will rebuilt the master and caliper. Fork rebuild will have to wait until after my sons wedding Jan. 7th.

I am lucky being father of the groom expenses are not like if I was father of the bride. I am paying for the rehearsal dinner and beer / pop at the reception. The brides parents gave her $10,000 to do with what she wants. Gosh, the dress was like $1,500 (or in SOHC terms - a good set of HM300's). Food at the reception is $5,000 (or in SOHC terms - a good sandcast project bike).  ;D

Nice, our daughter got married in June. One month after I picked up my K3. And this year it was my wife and I, 25th wedding Anniversary. Needless to say the rock she picked out for me to buy her would have been in (SOHC terms) a very nice K0-K1 bike in very good shape! My 401k is getting some payback with every paycheck for a couple years  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ::)

If I had that many 750s it would be divorce in SOHC terms!
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

Couldn't afford to get divorced, you'd have to give up half your bikes. Probably just be less stressful to live with someone you hate.

OK gents...I had a little down time for my sons wedding. It was beautiful (pic) and he married a wonderful girl. Back at it now. Got the master and caliper rebuilt. Recall my plan is to keep the bike completely OEM and not do any new chrome. I polished the fork ears and front fender. Amazed at how nice they are for original. Next I order the front tire to match the back. Then the forks come off for rebuild and polishing to remove the oxidation. More as I progress...
