I told the guy that there isnt much room between the frame and the carb and he just assured me that if i had a CB500F that it would fit fine, is there any way to make these fit??

I know I tried to fit some of the 'cone' shaped pods on a 500 once, and no-go.  Filters on 1 and 4 are too big to fit between carb and frame.

These WON'T fit:

You need something like the K&N picture.

Is the lighter an integral part of the kit?

Yep - part of a butane injection system.

I got some of the smaller K &N air filters on my cb 500. ( the ones in the second picture). I also could not get the first and fourth air filters on the damm carbs without squishing them. I ended up cutting off a quarter of an inch off the rubber to barely be able to squeeze them in . You can t really tell that they are cut b/c of the clamp.

Same problem on my '73 500 - with the cone shaped filters, #1 and 4 hit the frame. I understand that Uni-Filter makes filters that fit the 500-550's.

I think Dennis Kirk has them, too.  8)

i bought K&N filters for my '76 550F and they fit well.  if you go to the K&N site, they have filters in every size imaginable, and you can just find the one that fits.  mine seemed a little small when i got them out of the box, but once i put some muscle into it, they fit over the carb bodies and look great!

here's a link to the ones i bought :

You know, if it wasnt for the problems with pods,  I would like to try them sometime. Maybe I will get aother airbox and chop it up so the filter works as it should and still supports the carbs fro mthe back and see how that all works.
