CB550 turn signal weirdness
« on: October 16, 2011, 06:24:18 PM »
This just started happening: the left hand front running light remains on, right does not. turn signals ceased flashing when switched. and the turn signal indicator light stays on, and bright, all the time regardless of switch position.

but.....  when i let the bike idle (and the alternator output voltage lowers, i guess) the right running light comes back... kinda, but the siwtch doesn't manage to make the turn signals work, although i can hear it trying, with the beeps.

any ideas?

First, I'd disconnect the beeper.  I hate those things.  But it sounds like a ground issue.  Clean all the ground points and check all connectors.  Corrosion can occur anytime.

Look for a pinched wire probably under the seat and check your bullet connections for tightness, apart from that I would open the indicator switch and give the wee electrical switches a clean, could be they are not making a good connection one way and shorting the other.
Only do this if you are confident you can put it all back together though. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

OK, i've gone thru some of teh connections, sprayed out teh switch with contact cleaner... but still experiencing one side dimming when the RPMs go up.

any ideas why that could be happening?

you have a bad ground probably in the headlight bucket but it is somewhere it could even be the ground from the battery to the frame

I have a 73 CB750 with a similar problem. My right signal flashes when it's in the neutral position. When I flip it to the rigt signal, the lights dim and the buzzer sounds. When I flip the switch t the left, both lights dim and start flashing like a hazzard blinker.

I've been told that this is a switch issue. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

sounds like one of the ground wires and hot wires to the left signal is reversed and could also have a bad flasher or ground as well
