I've long held the belief that Stephen King probably doesn't write all of his own books. He is a prolific story teller, and an incredible mind for sure, but if you read all his books (and I've read most of them) it appears that his actual writing style seems to change backwards and forwards between books, which is highly unusual among authors, normally once they've written a few books they stick with the formula that they've developed.

If I was a "conspiracy theorist" ( ;D) I'd suggest that he's probably got a team of young writers working for him, he feeds them the ideas and keeps an eye on the progress of the books, (so certainly owns the intellectual property) but most likely leaves it up to them to fill in the blanks between events. Just a thought, of course................ Cheers, Terry. ;D

I agree with that. Even a spanish famous writer who even won the Nobel prize was accused by his "slave" of writing one of his books. The most blatant example was a famous TV star who allegedly wrote a book. Her admirers are housewives on their 50's on, so no real literature lovers. Somebody found out many passages on the book were a verbatim copy of one of Danielle Steel's novel. She was between the hammer and the anvil, having to admit that she either copied the book or had somebody writing it for her. She said that she was devastated as it seemed to be a "computer failure who mixed them together". Her real fans were not skilled enough to know wether a computer can do it by itself. In this country even this things are easily forgotten, she is now the one with the highest share on her time frame.

I read his first book many years ago. As a result, I decided he was not wired quite like the rest of us.  :o

I loved Salem's Lot, Jeresulam's Lot, not so much Carrie, Shining, Thinner pretty much most up to Misery. That was pure Misery trying to get through it. I read m,ost of It, more or less as a joke - on myself. Lost all interest and respect for his writing.
And yes, he was never wired correctly. Ever see any interviews with him? Not sure if its an act or real, but after seeing aboutv 5 interviews over 15 or so years - I think its real.
But he's supposed to be a great neighbor and very generous to the local community.

I wouldn't mind having that bike.  As for Steven King, have you ever seen his place, creepy, and his wife writes even weirder then he does.  He did a nice book for his daughter about dragons though. ;D

I think King bores himself sometimes. Some of it seems uninspired - fill-in-the-blanks, like Terry said. I loved Christine (probably because of the car theme) and The Stand. His best stuff is in his short stories, like in Skeleton Crew.

Anybody read any Jimmy Buffet books? I love his stuff. I wouldn't say I'm a big fan of his music (some of it I like) but I am of his books. I also read Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen a while back. Very entertaining.

While we are on teh king thing.

The Mist was an awsome short story. However, with no real ending, it made me throw the book in anxious anger.  ;D
