List 3 things that changed for 72..

If it’s for a '72 K2 750 ... then it's chrome fork ears, black headlight shell, large taillight.

Do you think this is going to be easy ... ;)

Beginning with the 750 K4, the upper triple tree is now manufactured with a rectangular shaped recess. What is the purpose of this recess?

My K3 also has that recess.
I'll venture a wild-ass guess that it's for a sticker of some kind. Maybe a caution/warning.
Possibly for the red "over speed" indicator light on the JDM models.

A wild-ass guess is allowed and we have a winner!  ;D

CycleRanger it’s your turn.

That recess is where the over speed warning light decal is placed when used for the Japanese market bikes. Some K3’s do have that recess, but it wasn’t actually used until the introduction of the JDM K4. The K3 wasn't released in the Japan.

72 had a different tailight, larger and the first ramp style, different gauges-dummy lights, first metal chainguard, first use of the rear grab bar and turn signal mount, first use of HM341's,first year of chrome headlight ears, and the one year only turn signal cancelling button.  There is 7 or 8,may be more  ???.     Eric

Ok, I've been thinking about this all day and I can't really think of a question that I think would be challenging enough for this crew.
I am by no means a master of SOHC4 arcana. I just have good reference books.  ;)
Hinomaru set the bar pretty high and I just made a lucky/educated guess.

I don't want to hold this up any longer so I'll just throw this one out there.

What thing/feature/item was technically a single-year-only thing on the K2-K6 bikes?
Difficulty: Not carb numbers or jetting.
(And yes, I know technically the K3-K5 bike were US only. I'm really slacking here, and I could be wrong!) ::)
Hopefully whoever asks the next question can do better.

1972 750 was the only year that had the 'extra' turn signal cancelling button on the left side under the horn button.

That's the answer I was looking for!  :)
At least I'm pretty sure it only that year.

Now your real challenge will be thinking of a suitable question.

OK-I know this old Guy who lives in the boonies and he has a Sandcast engine or 5-what is it worth ;D 8)
No seriously, I will now yield the floor and give the esteem challenge of another question to our neglected but respected fellow colleagues and riders in the 350-650cc class a chance to stump the audience with an impossible Trivia question.
First one to post that question may take the helm.    Eric
PS=In the meantime what color combo was the first prototype cb750 painted in. Would be a great combo today, would like to do one. ;)

OK folks, here's a 650 question for ya:

What are all the differences between the 1980 CB650 Standard and CB650 Custom?

(Lets limit this to design changes, and not boring things like "The Choke cable was 3mm shorter because the carbs were different."  HINT: the carbs were the same, so that statement doesn't get you anywhere  :P )

You are correct. Think that would still look sweet, silver with the stripe being red.

(and good point about the variances between countries.  am I too forward to restrict the question to the North American models??)

I'm off to listen to a very loud band so will rack my poor wee pee brain in the morning.  ;D
