Cracked Side Cover Repair
« on: October 22, 2011, 09:06:29 AM »
I have several questions about welding plastic side covers for these CB Honda's.

First does it really work?
If so what type of plastic welding rod is used?
And is there a good thread on this forum that goes into some details on how to?

I have not been impressed using high end epoxy.

Super Glue and baking soda react to create strong, sandable, paintable bond. I have used it to fix several side covers from several bikes.

I have sucessfully used woven glass mat(as against chopped strand) in epoxy before but to be honest if the panel has got brittle enough to crack you are better off buying new from LPM

I took an old sidecover that was totally stuffed, broke it into bits and into a jar with acetone, a day later it had melted into a  treacle like goo.
On the reverse side of a cracked cover i made a shallow V and smeared the goop in.
Because its the same material it actually melts its way onto your side cover becoming a very zen like "one" with it.
I have not found it to break yet, even though the cover rubbers are hard as hell.

Hope it helps

Go to a paint store that sells SEM products and buy a tube of problem plastic repair material... Use that with some net tape... Thats what we use at my body shop for anything like this...Or cracked bumpers... Stuff works amazing..
