Spokes arrived :)
Laced up the wheels last night ,and made a truing stand today .
Guess it would be easier to get it perfect if i had bought new rims , these ones had a few dents when i got them on the stand , but i got them within wery acceptable tolerances :)
Tires tomorrow , milestone !!!!!!!!!

Tires on and tireshop totally f**ked up my powdercoat :(
Im super pissed , not only on one side where they have used tire irons , but on both sides , how f**kin hard could it be , i deliver totally rebuilt rims , that has obviously been put a lot of work into , why not just at least try to be careful ?
On the upside , they at least agreed to cover all costs of fixing it , even if i decided to take it all apart again and re powder .
But i just dont feel like doing all that work again :(
My plan now is to let the air out , press the tire away from the lip of the rim , mask up the tire from under the lip , sand down the powder with fine sandpaper , use a little bondo in the deep schratches .
Then mask the rim along the lip , paint with 2k paint , let it dry then sand the joint down with 2000 grit wet,  and polish .

You guys think that will work

Im still pissed btw

If it was me i would powder the rims again,i know it's a lot of work but in the end it will last longer than just paint them, JMHO.

it wont work (as in you'll be dissatisfied until you get them done right)
make them tear them down, send to your PC shop, pick them up, rebuild/mount/balance.

i'd be pissed, too.

What do they hire airline baggage handlers there?? that's some serious scraping on that hub!  Good luck with however you work it out that must be frustrating  :-\  Build is looking sick though  8) Keep up the good work.

Damn! Those are horrible. I would have them redone. I could understand maybe a lip scratch but the hub is beat to hell

That sucks, sorry to hear it.

On a side note, I was at my local motorcycle shop because i needed help taking a tire off (thing was a b*tch to get off).  I was talking with the owner and mentioned my plan to powder the rims and re-spoke everything.  He told me not to powder the rims because it will just get dinged up and scratched when he uses the machine to put the tires back on.  Instead, he told that i should just buy new chrome rims.....

I have had powder coated rims before. I can understand the stray scratch here or there. Putting a tire on is not easy or gentle but that is ridiculous. Did they try and make you pay? Id take them apart, re powder coat them on the company dime and then take my wheels elsewhere for mounting. Was this a motorcycle tire shop?

Thanks for the feedback guys , really dont know what to do , if i tear it apart it will take considerable time to get back to where i am now :/
Maybe i should paint for now , and get them to pay for a set of new alu rims and put them on after the riding season ?
On the brighter side : check out my rack ( now thats something i have never said before ;)

I have modified my mikuni setup so all carbs are alligned with the inntakes .

The desision on the rims is that i have painted them for now ( just 5 hours of work :( ) it looks wery good even before sanding down the transision it pretty much invisible .
I will order new alu rims that i will put on after the riding season ( on the tire shops bill that is ) , really want this one on the road soooon.

So after that was done it was time to put it all togheter , and it actually fits :) front and back wheel is all assembled and on to stay !!!!!

I would go to jail over that.... just saying.... Thats not even a rookie mistake, thats straight out not a #$%* was given to try to begin to be careful! You have paint to match the powder? It might look weird when it transitions.

On my 1980 CB650C with the stock PD-style Keihein carbs, the manifold boots go straight through on both the airbox and the engine sides of the carb rack.

I don't think you mentioned... did you have to machine the brake calipers to clear the spokes like funjimmy did?

Yep i got the paint , the transition is on the edge of the 90 degree bend .
Havent sanded the edge yet and its hard to see even now .

Slow going again , waiting for the head to be ported and plained before i can put the engine back in the frame ....
Meanwhile i have done a lot of small stuff :
Made a headlight bracket and mounted the headlight.
Hooked up the brakes front and rear .
Made a gascap.
Painted a lot of bits and pieces.
Made a batterytray/ taillight mounting plate.
Got new allenhead stainless bolts for almost everything on the bike .
Fitted the dyna ignition to the crank .
Put the rockers back in the rocker cover ............and so on .


Its getting there , just to get the engine in and build the exhaust ( got the stainless tubing and bendes in the mail the other day ) , and the electrics , but on that part at least i know what im doing :)

I have discovered that the rear peg mounts are not quite strong enough for rear set use on there own.

I have discovered that the rear peg mounts are not quite strong enough for rear set use on there own.
Its already reinforced , its hard to see on that pic , but the tube that comes down towards the peg is actually welded in between the original ones :)
