I completed my eBay shopping frenzy this morning by winning the bid on an original Black Bomber headlamp and gauge assembly - now that I have the 'real deal' headlamp with gauge for the bomber I will shelve the Bultaco unit with Acewell digital gauge for another project.

Thats not as silly as it sounds mate, i've recently developed tennis elbow {i hate fcuking tennis} and the doc says NO MOTORCYCLES until its fixed or i won't be riding anything at all, i hate getting old.... :o

This evening I took the head to a learned and skilled professional in the field of motorcycle engines (Ken Colvin) who took one look at the valve seats and declared them "totally #$%*ed".

So, Ken now has the job of grinding them back to a usable condition, lucky for me the valves are all good, one cam is good and I have a second cam from the new spare head I can substitute for the bad one. I won't see any results for a couple of weeks.

So the engine still looks like this:



That's the stator cover I got with the spare engine on the weekend. it is period correct, but dented.

If only there was someone on this forum making clear CB450 stator covers...

Can't you (carefully) panel beat that dent out Cliff? Otherwise, looking great, and Ken's the man, so he'll have your engine working as good as it looks! ;D

Terry - I may be amazing but I don't think even I am good enough to panel beat a cast metal stator cover. Buggered if I know how it dented without cracking in the first place.

I am getting a quote on a 35m2 garage erected on the slab where my garden shed sits. Just need to talk to the landlord about going halves in the cost.

Wasn't me.  About a year ago I got him to rebore an H1A cylinder & match up the porting.  He really knows his stuff!  You gotta love a guy who asks if it will be used for racing or street, and hones the bore to that spec.  The new cylinder & piston quietened the bike right down.  Plus he can work on the small stuff (350/4 reboring)

Got a few little things done this weekend.

1/. Installed an original NOS front brake hub stay.

2/. Rebuilt the original petcock with a rebuild kit.

3/. Painted the instrument cluster frame that sits under the glass and reassembled the instrument cluster.

4/. Went over to a mates place today to watch the Bathurst race, and gave him my tank, seat pan and headlight bucket to paint (as he is a pro spray painter who did all the paint on my last bike).

Meanwhile - I am waiting for Ken to finish the head work, and for Dime City Cycles, CMSNL and eBay to deliver more parts to me.

... still waiting on the head, but that's okay.

I got my sprockets from DCC so I fitted the rear one.

And I made up a 'temporary' rear fender from a trashed stock rear fender - just took to it with the angle grinder to see what I could make.



This will do for the inspection process later on (we have to have fenders and chain guards here to pass inspection) then it will come off and I will just have a licence plate and tail light on a bracket coming out from under the seat pan.
