front forks
« on: October 26, 2011, 08:48:55 am »
Hi i have a set of standard front forks to fit to my CR 750 lookalike,i have the twin disc conversion, twin calipers and a rebuilt alloy front wheel. but am now thinking of fitting a set of GL1000 forks instead, now will all my other bits fit these forks, or will i have to buy new calipers etc. should i go down this road or just use what iv'e got, after all its only going to be a lookalike for me to play with.

Hi Tony
It all depends on how close to a CR you want your bike to be. A 'works' bike or one constructed from the list of parts offered by Mr Honda, not to mention how deep your pockets are. The four bolt fork sliders were not to my knowledge offered in the list of CR '970' parts. The mountings for the calipers are different for the GL1000 and located to the rear of the fork leg, so GL1000 calipers would be the easier option, but you are straying away from the CR concept, but it's personal choice at the end of the day. Yoshimura offered the four bolt type of fork legs in magnesium in the early 70's, but I've never seen a set since I got rid of mine in 1976. Road salt didn't do them any favours!Someone on here has gone to the trouble of removing the lugs from the GL1000 fork legs and welding on new ones to take the earlier CB750 calipers. Try a 'search' on GL1000 forks.

Cheers
Eric
