Saw a 160,000 mile K1 750 !
« on: October 24, 2011, 08:49:52 PM »
The mileage is estimated, I believe the mileage.
It is a 1 owner bike.

When I first laid eyes in it was the end of 74, and it had 68, 000 miles on it, At that time it got dropped damaging the speedo. I think he never ran the speedo since.
Around that time he put a 812 kit in it and Yoshi cam. The topend came off a couple more times, to re-ring it. Bottom end is UNTOUCHED.
So today the bike has been sitting a few years, missing a few bits, but he fifures it still runs. I went to see it last Wed, it is stored in a fairly dry environment out of the weather.

I personally probably rode around 5-10 K beside or with this bike, so I know it well. It was his only road bike until around the 90s, and he rode it a lot, and tried to keep track of mileagebased on where he went and how much he used it.

It started as a Candy Garnet Brown bike, at the end of 74 it had extended forks and dual Cibie type lights and Z bars, custom seat, and 16 inch rear. Shortened the front end  after that. Ran a fibremold tank after that, then a NOS turquoise tank, then a red original one. Since I have known it it had the Trippe A header on it bit the megahone/baffle had rotted off, It has finned covers and Webco tappet covers. Back in the 70s he put a dual disc F fork on it. Then added a Morris mag on the front.. still has that. Ran a 18 inch Mirris on the back for a while I think, but it was too skinny, so the 16 went back on..

I really like this bike, it is like an old friend to me. It is no, missing tank, guages, muffler.

It was nice to see it again after not seeing it a few decades. I have quite a few 'back in the day" pics of it.

His brother has a 72 that he bought less than a year old with almost the same mileage on it as well.

These 2 bikes and my own, cemented the idea in my head as to how long lived these can be.. that and the mikes I put on some of mine..

My brother bought a K2 that we have known for decades too. We know the guy that put the big bore kit on it and rode to louisville nationals with it's Po many times. The recent owner had to stop riding due to siezures. It too has been heavily modified. He is leaving it as is for a while just for nostalgia sake.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.
