Not only does that blacked out engine look awesome but i see you use the same thing for a work bench as i do. (That is an old outside table isn't it?)

Yep! hehe. never enough room right? I just moved and had to leave behind an 18ft long workbench. But no matter what the size, theres never enough room...

Thanks! I used vht satin black on the halves and cylinders. Afterwards i used some sandpaper to the fins. at first I used a vibrating sander and it started flaking off paint where it shouldnt have. Doing it gently by hand seems the way to go. Its such a thin area you dont really have to polish it, I just used maybe 200 grit. The finned covers I masked each fin and powdercoated.

i wiped mine when wet then used 400 then 800 grit on mine...

the durability and finish of any paint will depend on your prep of course.

Bringing this one back from the dead. Still looking for inspiration, especially paint detail. I generally lean toward polished side covers but I'm itching to do something different this time.
Here are some pics I nabbed off the web; one from this board and a couple from the Joker Machine site. If my 550 had a valve cover I could polish like the 750 does, it would be an easy choice. Just having a hard time visualizing the 550 head/valve cover on a fully painted engine, though.
