Engine paint
« on: October 25, 2011, 03:52:32 PM »
Hello, I've just purchased a 1974 CB550 and want to paint the engine as close to the original silver as I can. What paint are people using? I'm assuming you primer first then paint.

Is that the same paint color as the 750k's ('74 and '76 in my case). I want to do some touch-up this winter too.

Any special kind of primer?

Duplicolor silver engine paint is pretty much an exact match.

i don't believe that engine parts had primer, but the sides had a clear coat.

Duplicolor silver engine paint is pretty much an exact match.

I tried some cloud silver on my oil filter cover the first time I changed my oil this summer. It wasn't close enough for my taste. 2nd oil change I used the Duplicolor on the cover and it is spot on.

No primer on engines. And automotive paint is fine.. A car hood in AZ gets to 220 to 250 degrees, which is the highest these motors would get..
