21' front an rear or 16' front an rear
« on: October 26, 2011, 11:07:51 PM »
Im starting an 550 hartail build, the wheel have me at a stand still right now my first plan was to run a narrow glide 19 with a 3/4 axle up front under a dna springer front end 4 under 20' length, would be the easiest i wouldnt need to do any machine work for the axle, an then just run a 16x3 harley wheel laced to the honda hub, cool but done over an over, then im thinking same rear set up but front 16x3 laced to a cb400 front drum hub, need to get wheel spacer machined all balls has bearing that can get it close but not 100% if I go with that set up im going to run these tires https://www.universaltire.com/motorcycle-tires/500-16-indian-script-m-c-tire-blackwall.html ,but then I was thinking ordering 2 21' by 1.85 an lacing the cb400 hub up front an the 550 hub in the rear  the excel wheel from buchanas ,http://www.amazon.com/Avon-Speedmaster-Front-Tire-3-00-21/dp/B000GRSJAK tire something like that If I go with the 21
special order spokes on most all the set ups i mentioned,
So any suggestions might help speed me up a bit thanks
how do you think the ride would be with a 21 up front an rear compared to 16/16

I like it!

kinda gives the bike an overgrown board track racer look, expecially with that harley motor... not sure what it would look like with our straight four, but my interest is peaked.

CycleX does a 21 inch front conversion. If you are going Hardtail why not 16 rear and 21 front..... Actually i like the chunky look of the 16 front and rear..  ;)

I have a Honda belt drive rear wheel that uses about a 2.25or 2.5 rim in 16 inch, that looks like a 77/78 17" rim.
 I think its 36 hole..
 Does that help any ?

rocket thanks man, that thing to me is awsome an its on a "street" bike I think it might even look a little better on a bobber, the other night I was thinking doing the 21/21 would end up being way out of budget, today I called buchanas an they can make the rear laces for 21' to stock honda hub for 88.00 an the front 21' to cb450 hub for 68 bucks, they are only steel but I dont mind since I am planning on powdercoating them anyways, but now after seeing that bike Im thinking maybe Ill stick with the stock front end instead of the dna springer I have,
thanks 754 but im going with the 21/21
