Anyone in Bangkok with a SOHC?
« on: October 27, 2011, 01:34:58 am »
I'm here for a while, would be cool to be able to play with some bikes while I am here.
I thought I saw a SOHC go speeding by me the other day, maybe I was dreaming.

Nope, SE Asia.
The other Kevin (Bidgood) is in South Africa. I plan in visiting him soon.
Why are you looking at the Asia thread?
Hope you are keeping things under control in the PNW :-)

Is this for travel or are you working? Like teaching English? I ask as I may be heading that way myself in a couple of years on my SOHC.

It'll be good to have a fellow SOHC4'er at the embassy  ;)  I'm hoping (myself and another member) to come for a "visit" soon now that I'm unmarried. Any tips, perhaps via PM?

I bought some NOS parts off a Thai EBay merchant somewhere in Thailand, just don't remember where.

Hi Kevin

I was just told you were here in Thailand. (BKK) I am in Chiangmai.  Name is David, retired live in Nong Hoi area with my wife. From Bothell, WA.  We had Jai Thai Restuarant in Northgate area, sold it and moved here to take my turn at helping her take care of her family.

I do have a bike but it's 1/3 Yamaha, 1/3 Bicycle and I guess 1/3 Honda.  haha!  I took a old Y80 Belle I had bought new and pulled the hardware off (had really low miles for a 1986 model - 29,050 kms) completely redid 2t engine raised compression, bore and stroke and beefed up everything.  Then installed it in my Chopper/Bicycle frame.  Now it is a hardtail  :D Used Phantom tank and front forks, Used the Yamaha frame steering post (has serial to match motor) and engine mount.  With oversized tank would like to see if I can do the CM/BKK trip on one tank ::)

I was stationed here during Vietnam era (early) are you civilian  :D, Military ;D or Goverment issue 8)?

Hi David!
Your bike sounds pretty interesting. I bet you have a lot of fun on it up there in Chang Mai.
I rented a Kawasaki Ninja 650 in Chang Mai and rode it through the mountains up to Chang Rai and then did the Golden Triangle loop and back down to Chang Mai the next day. Loved every minute of it!!!

I grew up a few blocks from Greenlake and spent a lot of time in the Northgate area. I may have eaten at your restaurant  ;D

My uncle was also stationed here (BKK) during Vietnam, so was my grandfather, maybe you know them? Albert Brown Jr. and Samuel Leland Smith.

We are government issue  8)

Cool 8)

hahaha

Thought the Glasses fit the "Issue"

I grew up in Bothell, Parents still have 1 acre left of the Dairy farm I grew up on, the lat they sold was 4 acres to City of Bothell for Park. Kinda cool you can go on internet and research "Stipek Park" (parents are on the west side of it) When I'm gone family name will live on...

Thinking about doing a Honda 4 Cycle version of my bike.  Parts are cheap and available, we also have "Tiger" Motorcycle here.  Thai built bikes copies of Yamaha and Hondas.
