« on: May 16, 2006, 08:01:16 PM »
So I got the bike in the air on mynew harbor freight lift  and gothe right fork tube off pretty easily and went to put in my new fork seal  and #$%* it don't fit. Totally different animal . Any of you  78 750f people  who know what to do with these I sure would appreciate a call if you are local to the Portland Oregon metro area (503) 475 0933 I know it is to late to do anything about it now but a part number or where to get it locally tomorrow would sure be appreciated.

Scout - just bought a new pair for the 78 750F3.  Honda part number 91255-KBH-003.  Understand I haven't installed them yet, but with the old ones laid on top, they appear to be identical in outside diameter  so I'd be 99% positve they are the correct seals.

The seal size should be 48mm OD, 35mm ID and 11mm thick.
This info is usually stamped on the seal as 48x35x11.
Best to get a proper seal rather than an industrial seal, as MC seals have two sealing lips and also a spring loaded dust seal

I guess the stumper for me is the metal cup that is holding the rubber part. The seal that I got looks like a more conventional seal. When I pulled this one out there is another piece that is sitting in the top of the tube. It kind of looks like a pressed in bearing race cup.  There was no snap ring at the top of the fork either.  The lower part was held in by  allen head bolt above the axel  which I expected but i was also looking for the circlip at the top . Very easy to change if this is alll there is to it.

Ok I went to Honda and got fork seals. Is there supposed to be a snap ring on top of the seal on a 78 750f? guess I should have asked honda.

Yeah, there's a ring. Honda calls it an "OIl Seal Stopper Ring". Part #51466-375-000.

Scout,  It's not a snap ring, it's a piece of wire that fits into a groove at the top of the fork bottoms and sort of springs into place.  I could have taken a picture 2 weeks ago.

Probably so.  You'll have to spread it enough to go around the tube, but that shouldn't matter.  The dealer still had them a couple of years ago.
