Seat re-upholstery!
« on: March 28, 2012, 04:33:40 PM »
Howdy, i ran over my seat today (S*&^!!!!) and basically ruined the seat pan and tore the upholstery up. i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to re-upholster. Fortunately i have another (unbent) seat pan that i can use to re-upholster it, but I'm hoping i won't have to spend a fortune on fabric, etc. I raeally want to make a comfortable cafe seat, because the one i currently have (purchased from ebay, ran over by suburban) is literally a pain in the ass after an hour of riding. Thanks for the suggestions!

easiest way I've found to work with these seat pans-

1- Get foam and glue to pan, shape to taste

2- cover with some sort of auto, marine, motorcycle, snowmobile grade vinyl of your choosing

3- attach to seat pan around edges using pinch welt-

The secret is the pinch welt.  It will hold firm for years of daily riding (presuming you don't mess it up somehow) and if you ever need to take the vinyl off it is perfectly reuseable, quick and easy.
