To be honest, Im getting sick of asking people stuff on here because Ive been a mechanic/racer all my life but these bikes are a decent amount older than I am..
Anyways...
Im going to be doing a big bore kit in my next CB (72 CB 750) I just got done the first one.. Going right into my second.. Im going to do a Wiseco 836 kit most likely because I get support from them through my racing program.. As far as Ive seen, I dont need to change rods if I only go with the 836? BUT, what the real question is, is... When you guys replace rods, or anything like that, do you try and use companies like Wiseco? Obviously OEM is getting hard to find with these old metal balls that are called CBs..
Basically, it goes like this, I just built my first street bike, been on dirt my whole life, and I love the look of a Cafe. So I built one... From the ground up, a 73.. The motor was strong and wasnt loud when I got the bike and didnt have really high miles so I decided to just pull the whole bike apart and just chop the frame, paint, build, you know, all the normal cafe building thing... So that one is together and actually looking very very nice for my first CB.. I'll have to post pictures. But now Im onto my second one.. This one, the motor was stuck so I decided this bike was going to be my real pride and joy. I pulled the motor apart, now I plan on rebuilding it like new, boring it, putting a magneto on it inside of battery, different front end, basically just take my time and make this thing totally perfect.. Already have one to ride so might as well take my time. Obviously Ive taken many motorcycle motors apart but this one almost has me scratching my head because of how simply put together they are compared to the new EFI four strokes I race every weekend..
But anyways, back to my question, and Im sure they will be more.. Who do you go to if you want all the parts your going to need to rebuild a motor in one of these things.. Its disappointing that so many parts are discontinued but its a '73, what should I expect..Obviously I know, Wiseco, some of the OEM sites, etc.. But what little tricks do you guys have up your sleeves.. If you need to get technical, again, dont be scared.. Ive been working on bikes all my life.. Just not these ones..
