Question on points cam
« on: May 16, 2006, 08:29:20 PM »
Tearing into a CL350 twin and found not only the points coroded but rust on the cam also. I'd expect that to eat  up a new points set. Is the cam lobe replaceable? or do I need a whole new cam shaft for the bike?

Get some 800 or 1000 grit emery paper, a little oil, and rub off the rust. The pits won't hurt things much, but each rust chip causes a raised burr that will: polishing like this will smooth those off. It will be fine after that.

I'll give it a shot. I'll see what I can do to salvage those points too. So far this project has cost me $7 ;D
I figure I'm in for about 1% of expected expense and .00001% of the expected labor! My family just doesn't understand why I do this. I tell them it's more fun than going to a bar and i don't have to drive home after either! ;D

Much the same rational I used for my 350F project! I'm busy as hell right now, haven't had time to ride in 2 weeks, but my next project is already shaping up in my mind.
