I have made a lot of progress on the entire bike.  I will upload some photos this evening.  The engine is coming together and the powder coating is done. Now all I have to do is put humpty dumpty back together again.

I have the bottom part of the engine back together.  The engine got all new internals.  The rubber on rollers were so shot and they were very hard.  I had to replace the main bearings because I saw some scratches on them.  I painted the engine with VHT black and it turned out ok.  I will have to do some touch ups when the engine is done but I am happy.

The cylinder studs were a pain to get in.  I think some of the soda was in the threads.

The frame the a lot of misc items were powder coated gloss black.  The gordon frame kit looks great after the powder.  I was able to get some great parts from a forum member that wasn't going to use them.  I got a rebuilt front end with new progress springs, powder coated comstars, drilled rotors, and a rebuilt swingarm. I have most of everything I need to complete the bike except for a couple of items and the paint.  I am going to get the painting done next month when I have some extra cash.  So far so good.

The shifter stuff was a pain to get the springs set.  I went through the gears and they seem to be all there.  The new 836 pistons were installed and the c clips were difficult to install with the cylinder studs in.  It was like playing operation with needle nose pliers.  We were lucky and was able to get a wondering c-clip out of the engine.  I really didn't want to tear the engine apart to find it.  When we rotated the engine over the clip fell on the floor and we called it a night.  I still need to compress the rings and install the jugs and the head.  I got a new cycle x black chrome valve cover to go on it an it looks cool.

I am finding it was a lot quicker to tear it apart than it is to clean and reinstall everything.  I found myself deep cleaning the mud flap because it didn't look good next to the new powder coating.

Next step it to finish up the engine and start working on the chassis.  Hopefully will have a roller in a week or two.  I have two young girls so I don't get as much time as I like to work on the bike.  I have been doing late night Friday sessions that tend to end around 2-3 in the morning.  Waking up at 6 with the kids is hard but the quiet time with the bike is soooo worth it:)

I was able to get some quality time with the bike last night.  Since finishing the engine is on hold for a week or two I was able to work in the frame.  The rear master cylinder was rebuild and was cleaned up and mock with a new black stainless line.  I cleaned up the rear brake reservoir.  It looks ok but I would like to find a new better one and replace it.  I was able to get the swing arm and rear shocks in place.  The new and old powder coat matches pretty well.  I was going to finish the rebuild of the rear brake caliper but the shop manual said to use hi temp silicone grease for the piston.  I will have to pick some up.

New bearings and front end were installed.  Getting the races installed correctly took a little time and a few choice words.  I like the fork brace it will look good with my trimmed fender.

I was able to get the engine mostly buttoned up.  It was nice to get some of the parts off of the tables.

The engine got the following:

836 kit
HD studs
New Main chains, cam chain
New Main Bearings
All rubber tensioners
Cycle X Valves
Webcam 41a
Port & polish

To top everything off is the new black chrome valve cover.  The pics don't show all the charcoal depth.  I like it better with the new valve tappet covers.  With the engine mostly buttoned up attention goes to the frame.  I need to get the wiring started and will clean up the wiring harness.  The paint is getting started and will be finished by the end of month.

Looks like it is coming along great, I have an almost identicle engine sitting on my stand in the garage.  You will be happy with the build!  What are your plans for carbs?  Mine moved well with the CR's.

I can also totally relate to the two little girls.  I have 7 and 5 year old girls, so shop time is a premium.  My 5 year old helped me bleed my brakes this past weekend, it was great to have the help, but I had to keep stopping to dress Dora, lol...

Thanks the spray paint on the engine matches the different blacks in the powder coating well.  Nothing like starting with a new coat of paint on everything.

I am going to leave the stock carbs on and try to make it work with a K&N filter and some additional holes in the air box.  Bump up the mains one and use a washer under the needles.  My girls are a little younger at 4 and 1 they don't help too much.  I take the 4 year old around the yard on the my bike and she thinks it is a blast.  I might get her a dirt bike in a year or two.

Looking great! I am also with you on the kid thing, I've got three, 9 (almost), 7 and 4. My 9 year old is really starting to get interested in how all this stuff works and he's pretty good with his hands too. I love to see another "F" back on the road and showing those "K"s where the money is at.

I have some ups and downs with this build now.  After assembling the top end I found out that I installed the kickstarter wrong.  I installed it without any tension on the spring.  I flipped it over and split the cases. Removing the liquid gasket material wasn't that bad with some thinner. I did a search on this site and found some others that did the same thing and one had a video on the install. After a couple of hours and several beers the problem was fixed.  What an awesome site. ;D

I also got the electrical back in the bike and now have a roller.  The front is finished with progressive springs, drilled rotors, rebuilt calipers, stainless lines and a fork brace.  The set up has some preload adjusters on the springs that looks great.  Hopefully next weekend I can get the engine in the bike and finish up some loose ends.  The carbs need to be cleaned and rejeted for the new 836 and the electrical in the headlamp needs to be completed.  The paint should be done in the next couple of weeks and then I can get the headlight on.  The paint is going to be silver with a black stripes with a black fender that I cut down.    Getting closer.....

Thanks, the building is some extra space right now since we don't disassemble used cars any more at work. We are looking to move to another smaller building so the property is up for sale, but that is a different story.  I hope to have the engine in this weekend or next.

Thanks everyone for the kind words on my build.  I was able to get the engine in with some help and using my friends engine hoist on milk crates idea.  With the engine in now I can focus on the lose ends.  The header needs to be wrapped and some other small tasks.  Here are some pics on my engine and my roller.
